We bought Redmill from Monsieur Denoual’s widow 11
years ago. He’d retired to Le Moulin Rouge to hunt and fish. All
she knew was that there were "beaucoup des grandes carpes".
There are some stunning original fish. 10 years on and we still get the
odd first-time capture when somebody fishes an area that doesn't get fished
(near margin). We've dripped in stock fish to minimise the risk to the
originals. Home grown. Emphasis has been on pretty - scaly, fully-scaled,
and linears. And the freak monsters. The bigger mirrors from the early
stockings have overtaken the originals - at least 7 different stocked
mirrors have done 50. Biggest so far, a tad under 55. Average weight is
well over 30. A handful of the original commons are 40's, with one going
50. One, bigger, that's never been banked.
Having a house as a base is a bonus when you're
in the middle of nowhere for a week.
About 400 carp in under 10 acres of water.
You'd think it'd be easy. Occasionally, it is.
The fishing's rewarding.
Reap what you sow.
